Special witness in Mahaicony murder trial unavailable…

Doris, applicant for early trial, must wait until October Session
MAHAICONY murder trial accused Keith Doris, who had been agitating for an early trial for his alleged crime in 2008, was yesterday told by the prosecution that his trial could not go on because the main witness was unavailable and would not be ready to testify before September.
As a consequence, Justice Roxanne George, who, at a jail delivery interview some time ago, had promised the accused an early trial, lamented over the situation and directed the prosecution to fix the trial of the accused for the 2011 October Criminal Sessions.
The Judge told prosecutors Prithima Kissoon and Konyo Sandiford that if they were not ready to proceed by then, defence counsel Mr. George Thomas would be in a position to make certain requests.
Accused Keith Doris, who is indicted for the murder of Rambarran Singh on 24th November, 2008, had come to court in a cream outfit with tie to match.
When told by the judge that he would have to wait until the October Criminal Session before his trial could begin, the bespectacled accused said “thank you”, and left the dock with his escorts for the prison, where he is on remand.
If the prosecution is not ready to carry on when the new session begins in October, defence counsel Thomas, who, in association with Mr. James Bond, is appearing for the defence, will most likely apply for bail, among other things.
The prosecution is hoping to call eight witnesses to prove its case.
