Body of Canal resident recovered from Mazaruni river

THE body of Hemchand Manram, 33, of Canal No. 1 Polder, West Bank Demerara, was recovered at about 11:00 hrs on Wednesday in the Mazaruni River. Hemchand Manram was among a group of tourists on a jet boat in the Mazaruni River on Monday, August 01, 2011, when the vessel sank after it reportedly became entangled with some wire ropes.
Manram’s body was found about two miles from the site of the incident.
The mishap occurred in the vicinity of Marshall Falls, Mazaruni River, when the speedboat came into contact with a rope which was attached to a pontoon. The impact forced the boat into the side of the pontoon and passengers were thrown out of the boat which began to sink.
Manram and 23 others, including relatives and friends, were heading to Marshall Falls for a tour.
The boat left Bartica at 08:00 hrs and several stops were made along the way.
