Jamaica keeping anxious watch on the weather
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) – Jamaica will be keeping an anxious watch on the skies as they seek to extend their lead in the WICB Regional Under-19 Championship when the fourth round of matches bowls off here today. Inclement weather has been forecast for the next three days and Jamaica will hope it can stay away long enough for them to gather enough points from their clash with bottom-of-the-table Leeward Islands at Everest.
Rain has battered the capital for the last two days and the prospects of play at all three venues today appear bleak.
Barbados will face Trinidad & Tobago the Demerara Cricket Club while Guyana host Windward Islands at Bourda.
Rain also ravaged the last round of matches but Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago still managed to navigate the bad weather and play well enough to emerge with full points.
Jamaica crushed Barbados by nine wickets at Enmore while T&T beat Guyana by 73 runs at Everest. Windward Islands and the Leewards, meanwhile, played to a draw at Bourda.
The Jamaicans have 28 points going into the penultimate round, and will be backing themselves to take full points from the win-less Leewards, once the weather holds.
T&T, meanwhile, will look to build on their 24.3 points against an inconsistent Barbados who were routed for the tournament’s lowest score (63) in their last game.
Barbados, third on 20.3 points, entered the campaign boosted by the presence of their captain and the tournament’s only Test player in Kraigg Brathwaite but he has struggled with just 57 runs from four innings at an average of 14.25.
Guyana are fourth on 15.8 points, the Windwards are fifth on 7.3 points while the Leewards are last on 6.7 points.
