Minibus operators are responsible for safety of passengers

THE members of the Guyana Justices of Peace and Commissioners of Oaths to Affidavits Association(JP/COAA) express their sincere sympathy to the relatives and associates of all those persons who died in the minibus accident on Homestretch Avenue on July 18, 2011.
Members of the said association recognise that too many minibus operators are far more interested in how many trips they can make rather than the safety of their passengers. As such, operators of passenger vehicles must understand they-the operators are responsible for the safety of their passengers and in the circumstances they must drive within the prescribed speed limit, do not overload their vehicles, do not drink any kind of alcohol nor smoke while on duty, do not talk on cellular phones while driving and do not play loud music while carrying passengers.
Members of the above-mentioned association further call on politicians not to use tragedies like what happened on July 18 to gain political mileage.
Members of the said JP/COAA are always willing to be of assistance to the law enforcement agency when and where the services of a JP or COA are needed.
The JP/COAA expressed its support and admiration to those who are now insisting that minibus operators behave in a disciplined manner.
