Contrasting fortunes for Bahamas, Antigua at CBC Championship

NASSAU, Bahamas (CMC) – The Bahamas stormed to their second straight win while Antigua and Barbuda endured their second successive flop, on the second day of the Caribbean Basketball Championship (CBC) on Sunday.
While the Bahamians marched to an emphatic 75-41 victory over Bermuda, Antigua suffered yet another loss, this time a 84-73 verdict at the hands of the US Virgin Islands.
The Bahamas’ win came from a solid team effort, with everyone chipping in at crucial times to give their side momentum.
Alonzo Hinds was the high man with 12 points while Jaraun Burrows and Quentin Hall both finished with 10 points.
For Bermuda, no player made it into double figures as Jason Lowe and Aaron Jackson finished with eight points apiece.
The Bahamas led 24-12 at the end of the first quarter and out-scored them 16-7 in the second to take a 40-20 lead at halftime.
They kept up the pressure to lead 59-31 at the end of the third before strolling in their fourth.
Antigua, meanwhile, started strong but failed to sustain their tempo. They were ahead 22-18 at the end of the first quarter but the USVI hit back in the second quarter, to take a 38-37 advantage at the half-time whistle.
The third quarter was a blowout for the USVI as they out-scored their opponents 28-17 to snatch a 64-54 lead and take a healthy cushion into the final quarter.
For the winners, Cuthbert Victor led with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Ivan Aska weighed in with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Aaron Brown had 15 points and Walter Hodge, 13 points.
Juliun Hodge led all scorers with 24 points for Antigua and was supported by Lennox McCoy with 19 points and Kareem Meade, 15.
In the other game, the British Virgin Islands defeated Cayman Islands 66-54.
