Zoo camps are catching on

THE annual camps organized by the National Zoological Park for children from six to 12 are currently underway. They are one-week day camps and are being held in the Botanical Gardens.
General Manager of the National Parks Commission, Ms. Youlanda Vasconcellos, said that they will run for the duration of the school holidays.

They cater for two groups of children, one for those aged 6 to 9, and the other for those aged 10 to 12.
The programme includes educational tours, presentations on wildlife, field trips, nature stories, films, arts and craft, fishing in the ponds in the gardens, bird watching and games, and an organized visit to the National Museum.

The camps were inaugurated in 2002 and have been held annually.

There is a fee of $3,000 per child and each participant must take his lunch with him.

Parents are invited to the opening and closing sessions of each camp.

Vasconcellos said that parental response to the annual camps this year, as in previous years, has been very enthusiastic, adding that the organizers have to date been hard pressed to accommodate all the children who want to participate.

Notwithstanding this, parents who have not yet tried to enroll their children in the popular camps can contact officials of the zoo on telephone numbers 225 9142 or 225 9093, for necessary details.
