Republic Bank donates $1.7M Ministry’s music programme

THE Republic Bank of Guyana, through its power to make a difference initiative, yesterday donated a $1.7M cheque to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. The donation is to be used for workshops and training programmes for children, in an effort to enhance their skills, during the Right-start Pan Minors Music Literacy Camp 2011 programme.

Speaking at the handing-over at the ministry, Minster Dr. Frank Anthony said, “We are very pleased to have this sponsorship; we have had a number of partnerships with the bank for this year, and these continue to grow”.

He pointed out that the programme attracted over 100 hundred participants from around the country last year, and it is his hope that the figure can be doubled this year.

He stated that the intervention is timely as it comes at a time when the setting up of a music school is being looked at.
Programme Activity coordinator within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Andrew Tyndall, briefing the media, also noted that this is the second year that the bank has donated towards this programme.
He pointed out that the main focus is teaching children skills in playing the steelpan. Stanton Grant, representing the bank, said it is very pleased to be on board with this drive that seeks to further better Guyana, and will continue to contribute towards national development.
