Police prepared for elections

WITH national and regional elections only a few months away, the Guyana Police Force has announced its preparedness for the activity. Police Commissioner Henry Greene gave this assurance during an interview at the Tactical Services Unit, Eve Leary.

Greene noted that the various commanders from the force have already presented reports to him outlining the strategies that will be executed by the officers leading up to the period during and after elections.

“We have already identified at least three squads from TSU to deal with public order, and a fourth squad from headquarters to deal with basic foot patrols and so on” he added.

The force has already issued publications on training to ranks on the control of public meetings.

“We have made all these preparations already and we are just waiting for the period when these meetings will begin” Greene said.

The commissioner urged officers to take note of past experiences around election time and use them as a guide to better deal with situations that may arise.
