SIXTY- TWO-YEAR-OLD Eustace Benjamin, the pedal cyclist struck down by a speeding motor car at the corner of D’Urban and John Streets on Sunday morning, has died. Benjamin, who suffered a fractured skull and other injuries, died at the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital around 1:00hr the following morning, never having regained consciousness.
He was a driver employed by a security guard service, riding his bicycle en route to Bourda Market, when, around 7:00hrs, he was struck down by a female motorist. On impact, he was hurled several feet in the air before landing heavily on the bonnet of the car, shattering the windscreen. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he remained under close surveillance until he died.
Lamenting his passing, his wife Vesta, who cherishes every memory of him, said he would have turned 63 on July 26. Benjamin is also survived by his parents and other relatives.
