-as dry weather continues to plague rice industry
VICE-Chairman of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Mr. Vishnu Samaroo has reported that the regional administration has started to pump water from the Pomeroon River by way of the Dawa Pump station so as to boost the supply of water to some 32,500 acres of rice-lands currently under cultivation. According to Samaroo, the Dawa pump station will continue as long as there is need for water to sustain the crops.
He however urged farmers to be more vigilant where water conservation is concerned in light of the intensified dry weather condition which could spell disaster for their crops.
He said the drainage and Irrigation department of the Administration is currently feeding water to the Coffee Grove area.
