PRIME MINISTER Samuel Hinds, last Friday evening, joined in the celebration of France’s National Day at a ceremony held at Cara Lodge in Georgetown.
The prime minister extended, on behalf of the Government and People of Guyana, congratulations and best wishes to the Government and People of France as they celebrated their National Day.
Called Bastille Day, France’s National Day is celebrated on July 14 in commemoration of the storming of the Bastille, which took place in 1789 and marked the beginning of the French Revolution.
Prime Minister Hinds remarked that such occasions provide excellent opportunities to reflect on the progress of relations between countries, how they can build on the existing forms of co-operation to mirror the importance of the bilateral relationship.
He reminded that Guyana and France have enjoyed close and cordial relations since the establishment of relations more than four decades ago. He said the friendship is based on the two countries’ sense of strong mutual understanding and respect.
Also present at the event was Guyana’s Foreign Minister Ms. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett. (GINA)
