Seventy-Six PYARG youths successfully complete bronze expedition at Mainstay and Tapakuma

SEVENTY-six young members of the President’s Youth Award Republic of Guyana (PYARG) programme have successfully completed their bronze expedition, which lasted three days at Mainstay/Whyaka and Tapakuma Amerindian communities on the Essequibo Coast.

Senior Field Assistant Officer of PYARG on the Essequibo Coast, Herald Alves, said participants were involved in several activities during the month of May before embarking on the bronze expedition.

According to Alves, the expedition was not easy because it challenged the fitness and health of the participants. He said the entire expedition was about team work, respect for each other and to learn about different cultures, as well as for participants to have fun. Alves said participants were also involved in a cultural night, where they sang and danced.
The expedition started on July 1 and ended on July 3. Participants were accompanied on the expedition by several members of the Guyana Defence Force and officers and Unit leaders of the PYARG. They were exposed to cooking and sleeping in the open and exploring new places.
