Campbell hits third ton to lead Windies U-19s to series sweep

LAUDERHILL, Florida (CMC) – John Campbell completed a fine all-round performance, stroking his third straight hundred to lead West Indies Under-19s to an eight-wicket victory over the United States Under-19s in their Youth One-day International series yesterday. Campbell struck eight fours and seven sixes in his undefeated 101 from 69 balls, as the Young Windies successfully chased 134 for victory, reaching their target with 190 deliveries remaining in the final match at the Central Broward Regional Park.
The result meant that West Indies swept the four-match series 4-0, after winning the first match last Saturday by 215 runs, the second last Sunday by 268 runs, and the third match on Tuesday by 220 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method.
Young USA, choosing to bat, were dismissed for 133 in 49.3 overs, with Amir Khan taking three for 13 from his allotted 10 overs, and Campbell capturing three for 18 from 4.3 overs.
Amarnauth Persaud was the top-scorer for the USA with 24.
The Americans then had a bright start, when Keiron Joseph was run-out in the third over for one.
But Campbell added 69 for the second wicket with Stephen Etwaroo, and he then put on 52 – unbroken – for the third wicket with Justin Greaves.
Etwaroo made 13 before he was caught at mid-on off Steven Taylor in the 12th over before Campbell and Greaves hastened the visitors to victory.
Campbell reached his hundred with a single to long-on off Pranay Suri before Greaves finished the match with a straight six off the next ball from the same bowler.
Earlier, the American slipped to 36 for three, and though Persaud added 39 with Trevor Singh for the fourth wicket, they failed to keep their heads, and bled wickets until their innings closed.
West Indies return to the region where the players head to Guyana for the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Challenge, which opens on Monday.
Scores:
United States Under-19s 133 off 49.3 overs (Amarnauth Persaud 24; Amir Khan 3-13, John Campbell 3-18).
West Indies 135 for two off 18.2 overs (John Campbell 101 not out).
