THE boxing team, preparing for the ALBA Games in Venuezula, yesterday got a boost after Star Party Rentals pitched in with sponsorship.
The company yesterday handed over a cheque to Guyana Amateur Boxing Association’s (GABA) Technical Director Terrence Poole at its headquarters in Craig Street, Campbellville.
Star Party Rentals CEO, Lennox Cush, said that he is delighted to assist in the boxers’ participation at the Games.
“It is important that we all play a part in moulding our sportsmen and women as we all feel proud when they do well.
We feel that amateur boxing is in need of assistance so we did not hesitate when called upon,” Cush said.
The team is scheduled to depart Guyana tomorrow for the Games, which will kick off on Sunday and run until July 30.
Boxing begins next Saturday.
In thanking Star Party Rentals, GABA president Steve Ninvalle noted that the donation will go a far way in assisting the team.
Steffan Gouveia, Bert Braithwaite, Markember Pierrie (light heavyweight), Ron Smith (middleweight), Imran Khan (flyweight) and Samuel George Primo (heavyweight) are the boxers who will represent Guyana at the Games.
The team will be accompanied by national coach Wincell Thomas and referee/judge Ramona Agard.
