Digital Technology gets $222.9M contract to supply computers for secondary schools

THE Education Ministry and Digital Technology yesterday signed a $222.9M contract for the supply of computers and accessories for secondary schools countrywide.
Education Minister Shaik Baksh said the money for the supplies was approved by the Cabinet for the project to be undertaken, as it was seen as a worthy cause.

He added that with the rate at which the project is being executed, the laboratories should be completed by the beginning of the new school year.
Baksh said this initiative is a part of government’s plan to ensure that every child benefits from the country’s resources.

In light of this, over 1400 computers have been distributed to schools throughout the country.
“For the year, we have refurbished computer laboratories in 50 secondary schools, and presently we are working on upgrading another 20, out of the 110 secondary schools we have in Guyana.
“The schools that will benefit include those in the North West, at Charity, President’s College and at Black Bush Polder,” Baksh said among others.

He highlighted that 18 schools in Georgetown will also be targeted.

The minister also expressed gratitude to those organizations which have  donated ITC items to schools across the country.
