$250,000 for causing death by dangerous driving

A taxi driver was yesterday charged with causing death by dangerous driving and was placed on $250,000 bail.
Oswald Singh, of 2744 Laing Avenue, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the charge. Particulars stated that on July 10, at Avenue Republic, Georgetown, he drove a motorcycle in such a way as to cause the death of Revina Griffith.

Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said that on the day in question, while driving a motorcycle, heading north on Avenue of the Republic, Singh was approaching the intersection at Regent Street when the amber light was showing. He added that the pedestrian, Griffith, was crossing the road, the motorcycle ran her down and she fell.
Harvey also said that Singh picked up the woman and she was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she later died.
The prosecutor had no objection to bail, but requested a substantial amount.
Singh was placed on $250,000 bail and the matter was transferred to another court for report and fixture.
