Mexico win 2011 Under-17 World Cup

MEXICO lifted their second Under-17 World Cup title in front of thousands of cheering fans at Estadio Azteca as goals from Antonion Briseno and Giovani Casillas pushed El Tri past Uruguay in a 2-0 victory.
Briseno sparked the thrilling win for the Mexican youth team with a goal in the 31st minute and Casillas laid a dagger into Uruguay’s chances in the second half with a stoppage time clincher.
Starting goalkeeper Richard Sanchez believes that this momentous result will stay with him for years to come.
“I can’t even begin to explain how happy I am, to play at the Estadio Azteca, we’re so happy, me and my teammates. We worked really hard, I can’t even explain how I feel,” said Sanchez.
By securing the U-17 world title, Mexico continue their momentum towards becoming the top team in the CONCACAF region.
It was only two weeks ago that the senior team won the Gold Cup rallying from two goals down to beat the United States 4-2 in the region’s championship final.
Mexico’s last U-17 world title came in 2005. That team laid some of the building blocks for Mexico’s recent success on the senior level as Giovanni Dos Santos, Hector Moreno and Efrain Juarez all featured in the 3-0 victory over Brazil.
Carlos Vela, who is currently playing for Mexico in the Copa America, scoring the opening goal of that match in the 31st minute.
Mexico’s U-17 coach Raúl Gutiérrez believed that his young players were hungry aiming to acheive their ambitions.
“We had dreamed about it at some point. Now it’s crystallised,” said Gutierrez. “We have to thank the people, the scenery of it all. We’re so very proud of the players and the magic they put on the pitch. I’m so grateful to even be here.”
He added, “The magic is theirs. The kids, their work ethic. There are so many reasons why our country is celebrating tonight. It had been many years since we had done anything like this.” (Goal.com)
