New Jersey Arya Samaj Mission to continue outreach programmes in 2011

THE NEW Jersey Arya Samaj Mandir Humanitarian Mission is eagerly preparing for another year of outreach and charitable work here in Guyana, beginning with a month-long programme of activities which commences on July 15 and ends August 15, 2011. The following is a statement issued by the organization through which it attempts to give an account of its stewardship over the past seven years and a preview of its planned programme of activities for the fiscal year ahead:
“Over the past seven years, we have reached out to thousands of Guyanese who live in a state of neglect and poverty. The cruel hands of neglect have left these unfortunate victims behind. It has been our mission, through the generosity of donors and sponsors, to seek and offer assistance wherever and whenever we can. This year will be no exception.
“It is no secret that the economic situation around the world has significantly reduced the amount of charitable outpouring from our contributors [but] through our Cinder Block Donation Drive, we were able to amass a significant amount of funds [with which] we are hoping to break ground on the Benevolent Home project for the seniors, abused women, men and orphans this summer.
“Our collaborative efforts with several other groups and contributors in the New York and New Jersey area enabled success in the Grand Fundraising Boat Ride.  We partnered with Laparkan Trading Limited to ship several barrels of used clothing, donated by the Guyanese-American community, for distribution to poor communities. The proceeds from our efforts are never enough to challenge the dire state of poverty in Guyana.  However, through the generosity and liberality of our Guyanese-American and other surrounding communities, we are able to continue the Mission’s initiatives.
“Over the past seven years, we handed out merchandise to children and adults; built houses, and donated them freely and generously. This year, we wanted to channel our efforts in a slightly different direction. Last April, our first of many empowerment initiatives saw fruition. We empowered a low-income working family to build a home, whereby we contributed a portion of the cost, on condition that the family will make monthly contributions, interest free, over time.
“It is our strong belief that the people of Guyana are independent and strong-willed. Therefore, we are committed to demonstrate and support a path of upward mobility for more people to seek and develop their full potential.  We will continue to extend our previous initiates.
“This summer, our efforts will continue to assist less privileged children in and out of orphanages. We have sought the input of our Online friends, via Facebook, to assist us in seeking and identifying seniors who are bedridden and do not have the means to provide for themselves; children whose parents do not have the financial liberty to send them to school; and any other individuals who desperately need a helping hand.
“We can only break the chains of poverty through education and empowerment. We are also encouraging the Guyanese community to connect with us via Facebook, or the Guyana Chapter, in identifying local needs. We want to hear, listen, and partner with you to effect significant changes in your community. We open our hearts and arms to you.
“The Board of Directors of the NJASMHM wishes to thank all our donors and supporters for your continued support and gracious generosity. Your bigheartedness and openhandedness puts smiles and ease the burden of poverty in many desperate households and communities.”
