DOZENS of Guyanese residents in St. Kitts and Nevis turned out late Sunday to interact with President Bharrat Jagdeo and his delegation that were in the country to attend the 32nd Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community. The president’s delegation comprised Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett; Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad; Director General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Guyana’s Ambassador to CARICOM, Elisabeth Harper; and Presidential Advisor, Odinga Lumumba.
The President addressed a number of concerns raised by this section of the Guyanese diaspora. Among these were allowing young Guyanese to attend the University of Guyana without paying the rates applied to overseas applicants, rectification of passport issues, support in maintaining the Guyanese heritage and advice on remigrant opportunities.
President Jagdeo was given a star welcome as he was thronged by those in attendance who took time out to wish him well as he demits office. (GINA)
