EVERY election year, the PNCR desperately tries to recreate itself with the hope of securing their first legitimate election victory, after their four years of rest that usually follows the previous election. The party tries to camouflage its true self with new presidential candidates, new acronyms for rebranding, and new promises that they are unable to deliver. Since the party’s genesis, the PNCR has evolved only in name, as the party’s archaic manifesto remains the same. Over the course of several elections, the PNC has changed names so many times, one would anticipate that that party would change also, to meet the changing needs of this changing society, but sadly, they have proven themselves unable to adapt and answer these needs.
What was originally the PNC was later rebranded PNCR, then PNCR- One Guyana. And although they have hoodwinked some other smaller parties into coming under their wing under the pretext of a coalition, the Joint Opposition Political Parties (JOPP), which is now officially labelled A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), is only their latest façade. Surely, the PNCR must know by now that Guyanese are not ignorant people.
We the people, continue to observe that the PNCR lays dormant in between elections, leaving their constituents bewildered as to where their representatives stand. We watch while the PNCR masquerades itself foolishly under different disguises during the months immediately preceding the next general election, only to lose miserably on Election Day. And, we understand that this will continue to happen because voters will not stand idly by and allow the PNCR to remain in a state of hibernation, only to wake up months before the election and drag them through the same rigmarole with which they are all too familiar. This party has never lawfully secured an election victory in Guyana, and sadly, they are today, ill-prepared for the upcoming election.
APNU, PNCR’s latest façade
