-to help in rebuilding houses in Lethem
Barama Company Limited (BCL) has donated a generous amount of wood to the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) at the company’s Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara operations to help rebuild houses in Lethem, which were damaged by the flood caused by intense rainfall. Director General CDC, Colonel R’td, Chabilall Ramsarup and Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary, George Jervis accepted the donation from BCL’s Chief Executive Officer, Clement Ooi, and Head of Corporate Affairs, Mahindra Chand.
The donation is valued at over $1M and includes plywood.
Both Colonel Ramsarup and Jervis thanked the company on behalf of the Government of Guyana for the gesture. Ramsarup said he was certain the region will make maximum use of the plywood and the other materials.
In early June, villages in Region 9 and most especially the region’s administrative centre, Lethem ,were inundated for days due to bordering rivers overtopping. (GINA)
