THE long awaited semi-finals of this year’s Victory Valley Royals Schools’ basketball championship will be staged this afternoon at the Mackenzie High School (MHS) hard court in Retrieve, Linden.
The semi-finals which should have been completed since early last month, will see the first game at 14:30 hrs where MHS will be at home to New Silvercity Secondary, while the second semifinal will pit Linden Technical Institute against Christianburtg Wismar Secondary ‘Multi’ School.
The championship began at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court but was delayed due to the incomplete rehabilitative work on the playing surface of the main basketball playing facility in the Mining Town.
Founder of the Victory Valley Royals basketball club, United States-based Linden Alphonso who is a former female national coach had said he would have wanted the final to be played at the MSC after the resurfacing of the court when he was here during the Linden Town Week celebrations.
However, with no immediate word on when the MSC court will be completed from the relevant authorities, the Victory Valley Royals Basketball Club decided not to wait any longer and have the tournament completed at the MHS hard court. (Joe Chapman).
