IT is now seven months since the eastern Uitvlugt bridge has been closed to traffic and nothing has been done or really said about what is going to happen, except that money is being sought from the Ministry of Finance for the construction of a new bridge. That was reported by the Region 3 chairman about three months ago.
One likely scenario is that the other bridge at the western end would deteriorate and should there be an emergency like a fire it would be a herculean task for the Guyana Fire Service to gain access to the scene.
Of course no one would wish that to happen but it could happen. But this is another typical example of the reactive mentality of Guyanese authorities.
In addition, the roads in Ocean View and Uitvlugt Pasture are in a deplorable state which is comparable to backdam roads. In fact some backdam roads are in better condition than these roads.
Apparently people do not live in these housing schemes.
No sign of a new Uitvlugt bridge
