Victim still hospitalised, attempted murder accused remanded

MARK Smith, of Lot 78 Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday on an attempted murder charge. Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he was charged, indictably, with attempting to kill David Sookraj, on June 16, in Station Street, Kitty.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said that the virtual complainant and the accused are workmates and the former was walking along Station Street when the latter dealt him several lashes about his body and he fell.
The injured man was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he was admitted and is still hospitalised, the prosecutor reported, successfully objecting to bail for the accused.
The case will be called, again, on June 27.
