Prime Minister makes spiritual connection

– attends two Fathers Day services
PRIME Minister and acting President Samuel Hinds yesterday attended two church services to commemorate Father’s Day.
The first service was held at the St. George’s Cathedral, which was their annual celebration for Trinity Sunday, also referred to as Convocation Sunday, hosted by the St. John’s Association of Guyana.
Trinity/ Convocation Sunday is the day that the various Christian dioceses around the world celebrate their Father.
Dean and Rector for the Cathedral, Reverend Terry Davis, stated that Trinity/Convocation Sunday is the day when Christians remember God who takes on three different forms: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, referred to as the Trinity.
He further stated that individuals must remember God not only on this day specifically, but rather every day, moreso in their varying aspects of life because the word of the Lord says that men ought to seek first the “Kingdom of God and all his righteousness and all other things will be added unto thee”.
Earthly fathers have the responsibility to execute their parental obligation in a manner that is pleasing in the eyes of God, he said.
After the church service, a march past mounted by members of the Disciplined Services and the St. John’s Association was held at the corner of New Market and Carmichael Streets.
Also present at this service were Minister of Health Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, members of the Disciplined Services and members of the St. John’s Nurses Association.
The second service was held at the St. Peter’s African Methodist Episcopal Church in Queenstown.
Reverend Rudolph Aaron, Presiding Elder of the European District, in his sermon, stated that children and parents speak an entirely different language. Therefore parents, understanding that fact, need to strive daily to understand their children so as to strengthen their relationship.
He further stated that the book of Proverbs in the Holy Bible emphasizes that a child should be brought up in the way he should go, so he will not depart from it when he becomes an adult.
Parents, moreso fathers, have the grand responsibility of cultivating the necessary behavioural skills and teaching what is pertinent to the upbringing and life of their child, he said.
When there is a moral breakdown in society, and fathers shelve their God-given responsibilities, delinquent teens search for love and negatively express their emotions.
This, he said, ought not to happen; rather men need to be responsible fathers so they will be pleased with how their children turn out. (GINA)
