Golden Crowns
THE Cladanthus arabicus is a member of the asteraceae or Daisy family of about 2,000 plants scattered worldwide, but mainly found in temperate and subtropical regions.
The plant originated in North Africa, but is native to Spain and Morocco.
Also known as Palm Springs Daisy or Golden Crown, Cladanthus is an aromatic, bushy annual producing masses of daisy-like flowers in a mound of fragrant, feathery foliage.
It grows up to 75 cm. tall, and forms a steadily increasing mound of pale green feathery leaves.
These leaves, like the flowers, are pungently aromatic. The foliage is almost completely hidden by a succession of the single flowers, golden yellow and fragrant and about 2 in (5 cm) wide.
The Cladanthus is an easy-to-grow plant which covers the whole land at its disposal. Fully hardy, the plant does best when grown in sun, and in well-drained soil. It is ideal for growing in pots or greenhouses, and is generally a superb, scented, bedding plant, perfect for borders.
These unique plants are available at Flower Paradise, at Eccles, on the East Bank
