TRINIDAD GUARDIAN – AN Aranguez couple appeared in court Wednesday charged with possession of almost 300 grammes of marijuana. Dinesh Loy, 24, a Guyanese national, was fined $9,000 after pleading guilty to the charge, while his wife Leanna Deepan, 30, a cashier at a San Juan roti shop, was granted $40,000 bail with a surety after pleading not guilty before Port-of-Spain Magistrate Debbie Ann Bassaw.
They ware arrested on Tuesday night by officers attached to the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) after a search warrant was issued for drugs.
It was alleged a bag, containing 275 packets of marijuana, was found during the search.
Loy, a motor vehicle straightener, claimed he was given the bag as part payment for a job he completed for a customer.
Deepan is expected to reappear in court on June 27.
