GCB Inter-Association competition …

Byron, Hemraj power Georgetown to victory
UNBEATEN tons from Jahron Byron and Chanderpaul Hemraj led Georgetown to a massive 216-run victory over East Bank Demerara (EBD) when action in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)-organised Demerara Inter-Sub Association Under-19 competition continued at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence yesterday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Georgetown set a mammoth 287-3 in 50 overs then bowled EBD out for a paltry 71 runs in 30.1 overs, sending EBD to their second consecutive loss in as many days, following their 175-run defeat to East Coast Demerara (ECD) at the same venue the previous day.
Hemraj came in at number three and looked solid throughout his innings as did Byron, with Hemraj hitting a magnificent 118 in which he slapped ten fours and two sixes from 110 balls, while Byrone faced 115 deliveries for his 106 which was decorated with eight fours and a six.
Earlier in the day, Byron and Hemraj featured in a 248-run unbroken fourth-wicket partnership which left the EBD team in shambles since they could not find a working combination to separate the two or stop them from scoring heavily.
Georgetown openers Alex Romalho and Mohan Ramdeen missed out on the opportunity to get a big score on the track as John Paton bowled them for 18 and five, respectively, while Mark Rhobe was the third and final Georgetown wicket to fall as he went to Levon Beckles for just four.
EBD in reply had another collapse in their batting. They have yet another obstacle to face as they meet West Bank Demerara (WBD) – who humiliated ECD in their first match – in another 50-over encounter today at the Police Sports Complex (PSC) ground from 09:30hrs.
Georgetown conceded 14 extras to the EBD’s total. Paton who made 12 was the  top scorer, as no other batsman was able to reach double figures against Georgetown’s three top spinners.
Hemraj and Amir Khan both finished with 2 for 8 while Raj Nanan claimed 2 for 9 and they received supported from skipper Kwame Crosse, Pernell London and Kevin Ogle who picked up one wicket each.
