Doobay murder case PI beginning July 29

ACCUSED Mark Singh and Shakir Mohamed, jointly charged with the murder of Shewraney Doobay, wife of prominent physician, Dr. Ramsundar Doobay, returned to Court yesterday. As a result of their appearance, before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the charge for the capital offence was set to begin July 29.
The magistrate ordered that the witnesses be served with the summonses and further remanded the prisoners.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Gordon Gilhuys, who represented the duo last week, indicated yesterday that he will only be representing Singh.
Singh, of Lot 44 Plaisance, is the victim’s nephew and the co-accused is his friend Mohamed, of Lot 127 Latchuni Street, Better Hope, also on East Coast Demerara.
The body of Mrs. Doobay was found in a pool of blood at her Echilibar Villas, Campbellville, Georgetown home, on Tuesday, May 24.
Dr. Doobay, Head of Internal Medicine at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), discovered his 58-year-old wife dead, after getting assistance to break into the house.
