WITH the aim of giving their Under-15 Inter-county team much needed match practice ahead of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) upcoming Under-15 Inter-county tournament, a Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) President’s XI opposed the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) in a practice match at the GYO ground yesterday. Led by Nick Ramsaroop’s 60, David Latchaya 54, Viendra Gooniah 43 and skipper Sharaz Ramcharran’s 21, the BCB’s President’s XI, whose lineup included 75 % of the players who will be taking on Essequibo in the first match on Sunday, reached 261-8 from their 37 overs.
Sharief Mohammed with 3-51, and Ryan Shun and Onassis Yansen, who took two wickets each for 32 and 33 runs respectively, were the principal wicket-takers for GYO, who were guilty of squandering missed chances in the field, including dropping several catches.
In the home team’s reply, Tagenarine Chanderpaul the 15-year-old son of Guyana and West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul top-scored with 38 (4×4, 1×6) as his team were bowled out for 65 in 16.5 overs.
Mohammed offered support with the bat, with his 14 but no other batsman reached double figures as right hand off-spinner Arif Chan slid through the Woolford Avenue-based GYO batting lineup on his way to scalping 6-11. (Calvin Roberts)
