In drug case…

Bail refused as prosecution, defence differ on find
LEON Hope, 28, of Lot 126 Thomas Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was refused bail on a drug charge yesterday.
Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he pleaded not guilty to being in possession of 575 grammes cannabis (marijuana), for the purpose of trafficking,  on May 20.
Defence counsel Vic Puran had made an application for Hope’s pre-trial freedom, citing, as special circumstances, the fact that the defendant was not the only person in the building, he is not the owner nor did he have knowledge of the substance.
But police corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said the defendant was in a route 43 minibus when a policeman also travelling in it observed him acting in a suspicious manner.
The prosecutor said, when the vehicle reached Georgetown, a search of it yielded the narcotic.
Puran declared that the facts narrated by the prosecutor were totally outrageous but the case was transferred to another court for today.
