FAZIL Haniff defied challenging weather and a strong field to win Sunday’s sponsored Torginol Paints Medal Play Golf tournament played at the Lusignan Golf Club.
He shot a net 63 to emerge winner and also claimed two other prizes – Best Gross with a 74 and Nearest to the Pin. B. Harry was second with net 65 while Troy Cadogan placed third with net 68 in a creditable performance.
The tournament was sponsored by Continental Group of Companies under the Torginol Paint brand.
Torginol Paint Sales Manager Mohamed Shaw said he was pleased with the turnout of golfers for the tournament.
Rain had forced a postponement Saturday and the golfers returned the following day for the tee-off.
Shaw who said it was his first visit to Lusignan Golf Club was impressed with the facilities. He offered congratulations to the competing players.
In response, Club Secretary William Walker thanked Continental Group of Companies for their continued support and expressed confidence that the long-standing relationship between the Group and the LGC will continue.
Meanwhile, the Lusignan Golf Club recently concluded its Youth Programme with a presentation of certificates and trophies to the participants.
The programme which was conducted over eight weeks saw some ten youths exposed to  the basics of the game, as well as its rules and etiquette.
Club Vice President  Patrick Prashad was part of the training along with Guyana Open champion Avinash Persaud, Avinda Kishore and Roy Harry.
A five-hole tournament was held recently and the winners were Cody Noel Harry in the A group and female golfer Gena Rai in the B group.
Director of the Programme and Club Secretary Walker thanked all the companies who had donated towards the programme and said funds were available for another programme that will start in a few weeks.
