-female suspect strips naked to avoid arrest
POLICE on the Essequibo Coast have arrested a couple from Bounty Hall village for questioning into the brutal death of popular businessman Victor Warner of Richmond village. Reports said several police officers swooped down on the Bounty Hall family home at around midday Friday and as the officers tried to arrest the couple, the woman reportedly stripped naked and prevented the lawmen from taking her into custody.
However, a female officer, who was among the group of lawmen, had to take on the challenge to get the woman to dress and then arrest her. The couple is currently in custody at the Anna Regina Police Station assisting with investigations. The police have so far questioned several other persons including a son of the deceased businessman.
Victor Warner, age 70, was brutally murdered sometime early Thursday morning in his business premises located at public road, Richmond village. His lifeless body was discovered at around 06:45hrs Thursday morning by his 17-year old grandson, Navin Warner, lying in a pool of blood near a freezer.
His entire shop was looted and a large sum of money, jewellery and raw gold were stolen. The businessman’s mouth was duct taped and a hammer was fond near his body which is suspected to have been used by the bandits to smash the businessman’s head.
Police are following several leads in an effort to capture the criminals.
Meanwhile, while the police officers were returning from Bounty Hall village with the couple in their vehicle, a man known as ‘Shiney’ of West burg that was wanted by the police saw them approaching and quickly plunged into a main drainage canal near the Dartmouth concrete bridge to avoid the cops but the alert lawmen saw him and pursued him in the water.
The officers were on the bank of the canal with guns and the wanted man continued to duck under the water and evaded them until two warning shots were fired by the cops to frighten him.
He was eventually captured after one of the lawmen got into the water. As officers tried to capture the wanted man a large crowd gathered and flocked both sides of the canal to watch the cops in action.
