Popular Essequibo businessman robbed and killed

POLICE on the Essequibo Coast are investigating a robbery in which popular businessman, 70-year-old Victor Warner was robbed and murdered early Thursday morning.
Reports reaching the Guyana Chronicle said the lifeless body of the businessman was discovered by his 17-year old grandson, Navin Warner, around 06:45hrs after he came downstairs to meet his aunt, Roxie, who was calling at the front gate.

According to reports, the businessman who sleeps alone in the bottom flat of the building where his business is located was found dead lying in a pool of blood near his freezer with his head smashed in.
Reports said the entire shop was looted and a large sum of money, jewellery and raw gold were stolen.
However, reports are not clear as to how the bandits gained entry into the building, since windows or doors were not forced open.
Police are following several leads as to how the bandits entered the heavily grilled business premises.
As word of the robbery and murder spread across the Coast, scores of businessmen and women and other villagers flocked in front the business place at Richmond to get a glimpse of the body of the murdered businessman.
Many persons who gathered said the late businessman was a very good person who always helped society.
Many also suggested that the businessman who was the owner of the Sarswattie Cinema at Richmond was killed in a very cruel manner by stone hearted bandits for his hard earned money.
Several businessmen on the Essequibo Coast are now calling on the police and army to step up their patrols especially at nights in light of the murder/robbery incident.
Several suggestions from the man in the street said the bandits might have hidden in the building before the businessman locked his doors.
Reports said the back door of the business premises was used by the bandits to escape. Keys were used to open the padlocks from inside.
While the murder and robbery was taking place in the lower flat several grandchildren of the businessman slept in the upper flat of the building.
Police are investigating.
