… as new PTA seeks to enhance the school’s image
THE lawns of Stella Maris Primary School, on Woolford Avenue in the city, is expected to be a hive of activity on June 4 next, when the school hosts a fair and an inaugural Miss Stella Maris Pageant. The initiative, themed “Rebuilding our school’s image”, is being organised by the newly -installed executive of the school’s Parent Teacher’s Association (PTA), headed by new Chairman Mr. Jameel Rasul.
Ten students who will vie for the Miss Stella Maris crown were Tuesday sashed by former Miss Guyana Universe 2009, Jenel Cox, at a meeting convened by the PTA.
The pageant delegates will compete in four segments: Talent, Casual Wear, Evening Wear, and Question and Answer, with each delegate embracing a platform consistent with the school curriculum.
The top delegates will each be awarded attractive prizes. Among the top prizes for the Queen are a laptop computer and a beauty kit. Other prizes include a bicycle and a microwave, and there will be other incentives.
Attractive games, trampoline and a horror house are among the added attractions at the June 4 event, where refreshments will also be on sale.
Rasul told parents and teachers that a priority of the new body during its term in office, will be to seek to enhance the image of the school, the infrastructure, including the washrooms, and its surroundings.
To this end, the PTA Chairman urged parents, not only support the upcoming activity but also all the endeavours of the new executive, since the fair and pageant is the first of a number of fund-raising events which they intend to host.
He further encouraged parents to feel free to offer their suggestions as success will only be achieved through a unified effort.
