Farm wedding house attempted murder

Victim denies being a ‘bad man’ with dirty record
INJURED Ramnauth Sukhnandan, who claimed that accused  “Baby” and “Rocky”  attempted to murder him at a wedding house brawl in 2006, denied he was a liar and a “bad man” who had been seriously wounded in the past.
Defence counsel Mr. Jailal Kissoon had made the allegation that the informant was a liar who had been through many battles other than the one in 2006.
It is alleged that accused Naresh Singh, called “Baby” and Mohan Harriram, called “Rocky” wounded Ramnauth Sukhnandan with intention to murder him.
The prosecutors, Miss Konyo Sandiford and Mrs. Judith Gildharie-Mursalin, practising before Justice Roxanne George and a mixed jury, have set out to lead evidence to prove that the two accused men are also indicted for the offence of causing grievous bodily harm to Ramnauth Sukhnandan, to maim, disfigure or disable him.
Apart from Mr. Jailall Kissoon, other lawyers representing the defence are former Magistrate Mr.  Adrian Thompson and Mr. Satesh Kissoon.
The prosecution is further alleging that the trouble started when it was reported to the virtual complainant that someone had slapped his son Richard at a wedding house at Farm Squatting Area, East Bank, Demerara.
The complainant, it is said, had gone to find out the reason for the slapping when the two accused, who were nearby, picked up two pieces of wood and began beating the complainant on his head, causing him to fall unconscious.
In the process, the complainant sustained head injuries that led to the scanning of the brain and a skull injury which led to the production of a medical certificate which formed part of the charge against the accused.
Legal arguments in the absence of the jury surrounding the admissibility of a legal certificate is being discussed between the defence counsel and the prosecutors.
Further hearing of what could be regarded as a voir dire (a trial within a trial) will continue on the resumption this afternoon.
It is being alleged that, according to the wording of the certificate, it was difficult to determine the name of the doctor and the nature of the injury it was referring to.
Both accused are each on $50, 000.00 bail, with surety in like sum.
