– students to sit English Language exams today
The 2011 May/June Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC) exams are on, and today students will sit the English Language Papers One and Two.
Superintendent of Examinations at the Education Ministry, Ms. Saudia Kadir, told the Guyana Chronicle that the examinations are continuing without any hiccups at 150 exam centres.
The examinations started on April 15th with Visual Arts Paper 2, and continue tomorrow with the Mathematics Papers One and Two examinations.
There are approximately 12,800 students sitting the exams this year, an increase compared to the 2010 candidate entries, from both public and private schools, which numbered 11,362.
Last year, an analysis by the ministry revealed that the overall pass rate at the general and technical proficiencies for Grades One to Three was 66 percent, and the overall 2010 Grades One to Four pass rate was 86 per cent in 2010.
Education sector stakeholders are optimistic that this year’s results will be even better.
Education Minister Shaik Baksh contends that there is an increasing amount of resources being allocated to education in Guyana to ensure that the children are well equipped to perform at their best. (Vanessa Narine)
