THE arrest of a member of a Berbice Community Policing Group (CPG), following the recovery of an illegal shotgun in his home has raised eyebrows over the activities of the body that is supposed to provide support for the regular police in the fight against crime. The man was reportedly arrested around 20:30hrs on Tuesday after police found a 12-gauge shotgun stashed in a cupboard at his home on The Corentyne.
The man’s house was searched after investigators managed to gather much needed intelligence in their probe of several recent robberies on The Corentyne.
They are convinced that the CPG member was part of a gang that carried out the recent attacks in the community.
During the search a disassembled 12-gauge shotgun, the make and serial number unknown, was found in a kitchen cupboard.
The parts comprised the barrel, trigger mechanism, butt and several working portions wrapped in a white towel, a multi-coloured vest, a multi-coloured jersey and a manure bag.
In is defence, the CPG member claimed that he found the gun in a clump of bushes at the waterside.
If this does not open the eyes to those in high authority to take serious and very drastic action and allow innocent citizens to be armed to defend their lives and that of their loved ones in their very own homes, noting else will.
These criminals have not only infiltrated the armed forces and the Police Force but now have infiltrated Community Policing Groups as well.
The Community Policing Groups are supposed to work with the police on crimes right? They are working with the police alright.
Please do not tell Guyanese that the police in this community did not know in advance of this heinous crime by this Community Policing Group.
Mr. President, what would it take for you and those in high authority to put a full stop to this madness that is taking over Guyana?
How many more must be robbed, maimed, killed, murdered and slaughtered[before] it is seen fit to train and arm innocent citizens so as to protect their lives and that of loved ones?
Imagine this robbery took at least 40 minutes during which these criminals were terrorising innocent citizens while 911 was called, only to ring out or give a busy signal. Police as reported showed up about 45 minutes later.
This must tell Guyanese that these very police officers are in cahoots with these terroristic criminals.
Mr. President, where can innocent citizens go now to escape and be safe from these criminal terrorists?
Mr. President, as Commander- in-Chief, the onus is upon you to protect your citizens from criminals.
Once again, how much more of this terror Guyanese must endure before serious action is taken to rid these parasites from civil society?
Once again, Guyanese are calling on those in high authority to have their innocent law-abiding citizens trained in weapons use so as to protect their lives and that of their loved ones along with their properties.
