GABA selects team for Pan Am box-off in Panama

THE Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) has selected a five-man team of boxers to participate in the Pan Am Games box-off scheduled to be held in Panama in July. The team will be accompanied by two coaches and one manager. The selection committee, headed by president Steve Ninvalle, met on Monday and chose vice-president Eustace Cuffy to manage the team while Terrence Poole is head coach and James Walcott is his assistant.
The boxers selected are: Light heavyweight Mark Pierre, junior welterweight Bert Braithwaite, lightweights Steffon Gouveia and Marlon Darrel, bantamweight Keeve Allicock and junior flyweights Dexter `Chucky’ Wray and Troy Billy.
Fighters in the lightweight and junior flyweight divisions will engage in a box-off to decide who will represent each weight category in Panama.
The Pan Am box-off was originally scheduled for June 8-14 in Colombia but reports state that the South American country has pulled out of the competition, hence the rescheduling to July 1-7 in Panama.
