GABA pushing for exchange programme

THE Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) is pushing to secure more competition for its boxers and has recently proposed an exchange programme with the Long Island Amateur Boxing Championship and Charities Inc (LIABCCI). GABA president Steve Ninvalle met with LIABCCI Chief Executive Officer Guyanese Michael Carryl recently to pave the way forward for the exchange. According to Ninvalle the meeting was extremely positive with Carryl requesting an official document to “commence the first round”.
“We have proposed to have boxers from Carryl’s association come here during the last quarter of this year to engage our fighters. Carryl, who is a successful amateur trainer, referee and organiser is upbeat about the proposal and has asked that an official document from GABA requesting the exchange be sent.”
LIABCCI is a non-profit organisation intent on supporting young boxers and providing scholarships. Carryl formed the Carryl Boxing Gym in Linden and has been supporting amateur boxing in Guyana for some time.
Ninvalle said that once started the programme will benefit both GABA and LIABCCI.
