WHEN that bomb detonated by the so-called junkie at Stabroek Square, I wrote a detailed account of what I saw and heard that fateful day. My article ruffled a few feathers causing the offended crew to appeal to the Chairman of the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC), accusing me of making wild, unsubstantiated claims as to the true nature of the occurrence and the real motive behind it. We are now just a few months on the road to elections and so much has taken place by way of violent incidents and should I say sarcastically these are “mere accidental occurrences.” You see there is a plan on, a violent one, gearing towards an overthrow of the government which takes the form of destructive assaults thus making the country ungovernable. Did I say ungovernable? Yes I did; these were the exact words of a former Opposition Leader who was a bad loser in elections held here. He is known to have uttered those infamous words “slow fiah mo fiah” when property belonging to persons of a certain ethnicity and/or political affiliation went up in smoke among other atrocities.
Fast forward to the present-day happenings and we hear of Tacuma Ogunseye making violent statements against the elected government and the list goes on. Whether it is Ogunseye’s statement Hoyte or Burnham’s before them there is a characteristic resemblance; they are all singing from the same hymn book. The stratagem is to create as much chaos and confusion in our country so that they can somehow in the ensuing melee force the PPP/C into negotiating with them, hence a backdoor advantage back into power. So when we come up with channa bombs and other such incendiary devices, the tell tale handiwork of a people bent on creating mayhem.
It behoves the government not to be lax in their approach to the security of its citizens, but to be extra vigilant during this tense period leading up to general elections and to safeguard the lives and property of the people of Guyana.
