HAVING witnessed exemplary team work from the Florida based Team Coco in last year’s fourth annual Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport (MCYS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health ‘Ride for Life’ five stage meet, the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) has selected an eight man team to contest this weekend’s Independence three stage cycle road race. Inaugural five stage winner Alonso Greaves leads the team with support from his Roraima Bikers Club (RBC) teammates in defending champion Warren ‘40’ Mc Kay, Raymond ‘Steely’ and club captain Darren Allen.
Continental Cycle Club’s (CCC) Walter Grant-Stuart and Enzo Matthews, Robin Persaud from Carlton Wheelers and Ian ‘Dumb Boy’ Jackson of Flying Stars Cycle Club, complete the line up as the GCF anticipates a strong rivalry from Team Coco, who had indicated their willingness to compete in the event.
The eight man team reads: Alonso Greaves, Warren Mc Kay, Darren Allen, Robin Persaud, Raymond Newton, Walter Grant-Stuart, Enzo Matthews and Ian Jackson.
