CHRIS Balkarran also known as Alvin Balkarran, of Lot 37 Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday on charges of careless driving and unlawful wounding.
He pleaded not guilty to both offences, particulars of which said, last February 23, he drove motor car HB 6046 without due care and attention and, that same day, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Kamlowtie Charran and Nadira Khan.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said the defendant was involved in an accident and offered to take the injured to hospital but diverted and, when the virtual complainants realised they were heading in a different direction and asked Balkarran to stop, he stabbed them several times with an ice pick and drove away.
The prosecutor said, following a report to the police, the defendant was apprehended and placed on bail but never made a court appearance and was only recently arrested.
Balkarran was ordered to post $150,000 bail until May 6.
