Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS) Dr. Roger Luncheon announced yesterday that Cabinet has granted its agreement to the appointment of His Excellency Pedro Pereira as Ambassador of the Republic of Panama to Guyana. Speaking at a press briefing at the Office of the President, Dr. Luncheon explained that Ambassador Pereira is a career diplomat who will not be residing in Guyana.
As to the impact of this appointment on relations between the two countries, the Cabinet Secretary pointed out that Guyana would be integrated into inter -regional and international trade using the strengths of the Guyana/Panama engagements.
He said, “Panama is a hub and the canal has led to an explosion in the establishing of trading, that linkage with Guyana, and some expectation of our contribution to inter-regional trade to the Caribbean and Asia in particular would make the engagement with Panama of importance.”
