THOUSANDS are expected to throng Anna Regina Community Centre ground on Essequibo Coast for the May 1 first Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) mela to mark 173 years since Indians arrived here on May 5, 1838.
A release, from the Regional Administration in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) said, after the first planning meeting for the occasion, on Tuesday in the Regional Boardroom at Anna Regina, IAC executive member, Mr. Raymond Azeez reported that the programme will include a grand cultural show, featuring four dance troupes from Georgetown and Essequibo Coast.
He said entertainment will be provided by New Clarity International Band and children of the three main religions of the country will recite prayers while members of the Christian, Hindu and Muslim communities will sing gospel, bhajans and quaseedas.
Azeez said Indian foods will be at several booths at the venue.
