Suggestions for Writers

I WOULD like to advise all writers that if they have to refer to currency, that it is necessary that they specify the particular description of that currency: for example, GBP for British pounds; Bolivars – Venezuela; SURGuilders- Suriname. However, much confusion reigns among the dollar currencies. Often times one does not know if they are US$, CDN$, AUS$, G$, etc. One is also almost always befuddled at the differing estimations of the same crowds by different media houses and writers.

There was the blatant recent case of the estimation of, what can be considered, a small countable crowd of victims of the Kingston fire. Three different media houses estimated that gathering to be 50, 70, 90 at the same time. Many times thousands are used to describe what are really hundreds, and hundreds, tens.

The world times have also gone awry for want of designation. Weights and measurements have also fallen into disarray because of inappropriate nomenclature. Metres have been confused with yards, miles with kilometers, hectares with acres and Imperial weights with Metric.

What do we do to remedy these now important misnomers? This is very simple, we all have to do our homework/research more accurately before publishing our articles for consumption and edification of the reading public.
