Husband, wife face charges after argument

MOHAMED Azad and his wife, Nanawattie Azad appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at Vreed-en-Hoop Court, West Coast Demerara, last week Wednesday, on charges resulting from an incident the day before. The husband pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting his wife at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo and she denied threatening him, also on April 19, following a domestic argument.
Nanawattie was also charged with unlawfully assaulting her mother-in-law, Zaleema Azad, to which she pleaded guilty and was fined $10,000.
However, the female defendant was granted $5,000 bail on the threatening charge and he was ordered to post $10,000 surety, pending their next appearance on June 7. (Juliet Bachu)
