Assault defendants remanded in domestic violence cases

KAWAL Shivnauth has been remanded to prison on a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.
He pleaded guilty to the offence, before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus last week Wednesday, at Vreed-en-Hoop Court, admitting that on April 18, at Anna Catherina, also on West Coast Demerara, he assaulted his reputed wife, Faleema Zahir.
The defendant told the Court the virtual complainant prevented him from visiting his children and he retaliated when she attacked him.
However, Police Sergeant Sherwin Matthews, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for Shivnauth, on the ground that the defendant would interfere with the alleged victim.
The case will be called, again, on May 4.
Shyam Balram, 26, of Lot 2381 Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, was also remanded to prison, by the same magistrate, last week Tuesday.
He pleaded not guilty to having, on April 14, assaulted his common law wife, Azeefa Khan, to cause her actual bodily harm.
The woman, with a swollen face and one eye black and blue, was unable to speak in Court and the case was put off to tomorrow.
Collis Albert, of Lots 20-22 Tuschen Housing Scheme, was refused bail, as well, until May 4.
He pleaded not guilty to having, on April 17, unlawfully and maliciously wounded his wife, Sherryann Christy.
Moving with assistance from her mother, the woman revealed, to the Court, two knife wounds.
Prosecutor Matthews, was successful with his bail objection, after narrating how the stabbing occurred.
