LINDEN will be a hive of activity over the Easter holidays, beginning today with the grand opening of the annual Linden Town Week at the Linden/Georgetown Bus Park, replete with live entertainment and a guest speaker. Then, from next Friday to Sunday, the Linden Chamber of Industry and Commerce will hold a three-day exposition at the Egbert Benjamin Centre Hall, and see participation from companies from the manufacturing, wholesale, financial, forestry, arts and craft, educational and tourism sectors. Eight Brazilian companies are also expected to participate in the fair.
One popular, crowd-pleasing aspect of the ‘Town Week’ is the ‘Miss Linden Town Week Pageant’ with its much-anticipated ‘Swim-Suit’ segment, which is billed for the Watooka Pool tomorrow, and the crowning at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground next Saturday.
Each ward will be having their own special celebration. There will be a Wismar Night; an Amelia Ward Night, featuring for the first time a ‘Foam Party’; and a Mackenzie High School Night. Then there is the well-supported ‘Linden Town Big Lime’ on Sunday May 1. Many overseas-based Guyanese, all Lindeners, and visitors from all over Guyana are expected to be there.
While all this is taking place, there will be the traditional kite flying. Families will descend on the Bay Rock Ground (Basin), the Dyke, and other riverside beaches to fly their kites.
And as if that is not enough, there will also be a big Easter Monday Boxing Card  at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground. The card will feature the following: Guyana Fight Night,  showcasing eight fights: Four amateur and four professional bouts. The main clash will be  a twelve-round encounter for the Guyana Cruiser Weight Title.
So when you are making your Easter plans, do include a trip to the mining town of Linden in them. Take along the family, kites and plenty of energy to ensure you have a grand old time during the Linden Town Week celebrations.
