$80,000 bail granted to teenager charged with forging CXC certificate to gain employment

A 19-year-old girl was yesterday placed on $80,000 bail for allegedly forging a certificate from the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) to obtain employment.
Orian Smith, of Lot 10 Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton and was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on April 18, she forged one CXC certificate number 0900670444 purporting to show that she obtained seven subjects and gain grades 2 and 3, with intent to obtain employment at Metro Office and Computer Supplies knowing same to be forged.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, had no objection to bail and the defendant was placed on $80,000 bail. The matter will be called again on May 25, for report and fixture. (Nathalene DeFreitas)
